ABOUT DC RANCH:
DC Ranch is a 4,400-acre community located adjacent to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in north Scottsdale, Arizona. The community is composed of 25 diverse neighborhoods within four distinct villages that interact with shared open spaces to create a sense of living with the land. The first home was completed in 1997, and there are currently 2,800 homes and approximately 7,000 residents on the Ranch.
DC Ranch is governed by three entities: DC Ranch Community Council, Ranch Association, and the Covenant Commission. All three entities work toward the same goal: to serve residents and create a community that is beautiful, functions well, and creates a deep sense of belonging.
OVERVIEW:
The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for developing and carrying out a rich offering of events, programs, resident-led clubs, and activities that complement the Community Council’s mission and community values. Events and programs enhance DC Ranch resident’s lifestyle experience and create connections among neighbors. This position offers a seasoned professional the opportunity to work in a full-service events and recreation department for a master-planned community. This individual provides leadership, mentoring and supervision to the community engagement team and strategic oversight of the development of community and public events; recreation, philanthropic, arts and education and the youth theatre programming; volunteer program; in addition to welcoming new residents.
Community Engagement & Initiatives
- Oversee resident philanthropic programs including DC Ranch Gives, (develop job descriptions for roles essential to program execution, recruitment and training of volunteers, as well as coordinating volunteer and donation opportunities for residents) and the annual Volunteer of the Year event
- Lead the implementation of events, programs, and resident-led clubs that provide strong interaction and connectivity between residents, the Community Council and DC Ranch.
- Lead/participate in steering committee meetings for programs and initiatives
- Coordinate New Resident Welcome Program including recruiting volunteers, orchestrating, and tracking ‘touch points’, acknowledging milestone home anniversaries and executing program details
- Create and manage a volunteer engagement program that includes job descriptions for roles essential to event/program execution, as well as recruitment and training
- Lead in collaboration with Ranch Association the Resident Leadership Academy program including identifying areas of need, recruiting, training and creating volunteer base
- Oversee DC Ranch Ambassador program including recruiting and onboarding resident volunteers and maintain communication for resident-to-resident outreach
- Support Director with special projects, initiatives and assignments
Strategic Development of Community Engagement
In collaboration with the Community Council leadership team, develop and implement events and programs that align with the mission, values, and interests of residents.
- Identify opportunities to highlight DC Ranch's community values and position DC Ranch as a vibrant community
- Identify and provide meaningful opportunities for DC Ranch stakeholders and partners to be part of Community Council events and programs
- Develop the creative vision for events and programs and provide leadership to the community engagement team to implement the vision
- Create and monitor budgets related to events and programs
Leadership and Management of the Community Engagement Team
Supervise and support the execution of events and programs by the community engagement team, other contracted vendors and partners including:
- Provide direct supervision, mentoring and professional development opportunities for three (3) team members; conduct performance reviews and appraisals; approve time-off requests; interview, hire and train new employees; and other related supervisory tasks
- Effectively delegate event and program planning responsibilities to members of the team
- Provide quality control and best-practices oversight of events and programs
- Work collaboratively with communications team to guarantee events and programs are promoted to residents in timely and creative manner
- Ensure events and programs are properly staffed and/or supported by volunteers
- Recommend, manage, and provide trainings for event registration software and other software/technology advancements. Oversee event and program registrations and proper utilization of event registration software programs
- Collect and report data related to event and program attendance and experience; provide monthly report to leadership team
- Provide recommendations and updates to related policies and procedures to ensure best practices and risk reduction
Community Engagement Team Support
- Participate in day-of event and program set-up/tear-down activities
- Ensure day-of event and program logistics and training are in place for staff and volunteers
Community Council Team Support
- Deliver high-quality customer service to residents and guests at community centers
- Assist in community center operations, budget and accounting responsibilities, as assigned
- Contribute to, and build upon, Community Council team culture

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Four-year degree in recreation, communications, social sciences, marketing or related field
- Five years of experience working in programming, event management or for a
municipality, planned community, non-profit or related industry - Two years of supervisory experience in a professional setting
- Recreation Software (reservation and registration platform) experience preferred
