Lifeguard Supervisor

Under direction, supervises, monitors, and coordinates personnel, daily operation and maintenance activities of the Town's Parks & Recreation Department, Lifeguard division.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensures the health and safety of employees and patrons.
  • Duties may include seasonal maintenance work such as heavy cleaning, operating hand power tools, painting, light landscaping and operating small machinery.
  • Maintains records and reports on daily attendance and maintenance.
  • Performs routine water tests and makes necessary adjustments to pool chemicals.
  • Prepares pool and facility for the opening and/or closing of the day.
  • Maintains cleanliness of pool and facility.
  • Supervises the day-to-day activities including communicating, scheduling work, training, evaluating, and motivating staff.
  • Assists with ordering chemicals and supplies.
  • Assures chemicals are stored properly and in the appropriate feeders.
  • Identifies and removes safety hazards.
  • Maintains vigilance awareness training standards.
  • Operates and performs preventative maintenance on pool equipment with primary focus on the pump room.
  • Responds to emergency situations by performing First Aid, CPR and/or Lifeguard Training Rescues/Techniques.
  • Assists with personnel actions such as selection, promotion, discipline, and evaluations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to fairly and uniformly enforce pool regulations. 
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations including safely rescuing drowning victims and administering CPR and First Aid. 
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques and methods. 
  • Knowledge of management and/or supervision principles and possession of strong leadership skills. 
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and procedures related to pool facilities. 
  • Knowledge of pool maintenance and operation techniques. 
  • Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A High School diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year experience as a Lifeguard.
  • One (1) year experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must possess Oxygen Administration certification.
  • Must possess at time of application and maintain Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
  • Must obtain within 90 days of hire, associated safety certifications.
  • Lifeguarding Instructor or other advanced aquatic certification preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional exposure to communicable diseases associated with first aid procedures.
  • Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to temperatures that exceed 110 degrees.
  • Frequent exposure to chemical hazards including calcium hypochlorite and muriatic acid.
  • Occasional exposure to mechanical and/or electrical hazards associated with pool operational equipment.
  • Frequent exposure to noise and vibration relating to pool operational equipment.
  • Seasonal exposure to wetness/humidity as well as extreme temperatures.
  • Must be able to lift or move over fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to swim 300 yards, demonstrating use of freestyle and breaststroke. 
  • Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
