Organizational Background
The Arizona Parks and Recreation Association was founded in 1950 as a member-based professional organization. The organization’s membership is comprised of diverse professionals who work for local municipalities, state and county parks, private recreation agencies, HOA's, golf courses and a variety of businesses who serve the industry. As a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization, the mission of APRA is to connect, educate and inspire all who enhance the quality of life through the profession of parks, recreation, and the protection of natural resources.
Position Summary
The Arizona Parks and Recreation Association (APRA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern to support association operations for 12 weeks during the summer months. This position plays a key role in assisting with APRA’s Annual Education Conference, member services, and organizational events.
In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in association management, event operations, membership systems, and nonprofit administration while working closely with APRA leadership.
This position reports directly to the Program and Membership Coordinator and may assist the Marketing and Events Coordinator and Executive Director as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the conference registration desk
- Assist with volunteer check-in and shift coordination
- Utilize APRA’s Association Management System (AMS), GrowthZone, to:
- Track and verify member registrations
- Review volunteer schedules and assignments
- Troubleshoot registration questions
- Provide professional and friendly customer service to attendees
- Monitor and respond to emails received in the APRA administrative inbox
- Assist members with registration questions and general inquiries
- Maintain accurate member and event records within GrowthZone
- Assist with APRA events, programs, and certification courses
- Support event setup and breakdown
- Check in participants at events and trainings
- Assist with equipment setup and general logistics
- Support on-site operations, including managing assigned areas when needed
- Other duties as assigned
Professional Qualifications and Personal Attributes
- Interest in parks and recreation, nonprofit management, event planning, or association administration
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Professional and customer-service oriented demeanor
- Comfortable learning and navigating technology systems (training provided for GrowthZone)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to lift light to moderate event equipment as needed
- Ability to work and be on-site for the APRA Annual Conference August 30 – September 2, 2026, in downtown Phoenix, AZ
Work Environment:
- In office administrative and on-site event work
- Evening or weekend hours may be required during events and conferences.
Benefits
- Compensation: $20.00 per hour. (Maximum 40 hours/week)
- Benefits: This is a temporary, hourly position with no additional benefits (including health insurance or paid time off).
This position offers flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments. Expected start date is near the end of May/early June through September 2, 2026
